Question about Charter's Offer to Buy Out a Contract

So I have DirecTV and they're pissing me off. It'll cost me $400 to buy out of my contract, and I see that Charter Communications will pay up to $500 to get my service if I order their triple bundle. I already have internet through them, so this shouldn't be too much of a problem.

My question - Is there any fine print I'm missing with Charter? Anyone have experience with this? I don't want to find out in 12 months that Charter's offer was only good for a year and then it would be added to my monthly bill.

Yeah well DirecTV isn't being all that great either. Quoted me a certain price and my bill was different. I even asked the lady to confirm that my bill would be that number and she repeated it to me. Of course it wasn't that number and now they're acting like they can't figure out why I would have been quoted that price.

they have 12 month offers, or lock u into a 1 year deal, then try to shove it up your wazoo.

I have charter internet(100mbs), but i'm close to going back to ATT(have dish for tv) for both services. 1 reason, is because charter hassles me every other day to get tv with them. I even tell them i'll die before i ever use your tv service. they continue calling. You need to get everything in writing and up front. They lie like rugs.

Att will be going to Full Fiber, 1gig, in next 6 months, so i'll ride out charter and dish till then. I loathe charter, because of how shitty they treated customers who didnt have options.

I've had directv for 10 years. Never had that problem, until the last 2-3 months.

I got rid of ATT internet b/c they always messed my bill up and couldnt' fix it blah blah blah.

Ironic ATT bought out directv recently. Yes i know they haven't officially taken over or changed anything yet, just find that weird.

I called Sunday to cancel Directv and got $15 off for 2 years and free NFL sunday ticket max.

Charter has the worst television service out there. I would consider every alternative before Charter

This is the problem for me. I got the same thing a month ago. I specifically asked the lady to tell me exactly what my new price would be. She never once mentioned that a $20 credit I was receiving from a renegotiation two years ago was one month away from expiring.

She even said if my bill was not what she was quoting me to call back and talk to account management to get it fixed. Well that fricking happened, and they're not fixing it.

I'm hoping if I call back threatening to cancel and go with Charter that they'll cave and give me the $20 credit back but I'm getting the feeling that they don't give a shite.

I just renegotiated with DirecTV is the problem. It's so much to buyout that Charter's offer seems reasonable.

That's something else. If Charter pays a certain amount to buyout my contract and I end up hating Charter, will Charter make me pay the DirecTV buyout in order to cancel on them? Would that create a double buyout payment?

I have the second best cox internet package and roku 3. No cable tv and I am happy as a clam...

Ride out your contract and cut the cord brochacho. You'll be amazed at how much you don't miss all that foolishness and the $100.00 a month bill that came with it.

But what about football?

As soon as that question is answered, I'll never have cable again.

The cable/satellite service industry cracks me up. People have complaints about EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM and they actually think they are going to get anything better by switching. These companies know that they suck, thus give you super special treatment and prices to get you to switch to them. But once that first year is over and your bill doubles, they don't give a shite

Then you move on to the next service provider and repeat cycle.

Edit: Wouldn't the service providers be better off allowing customers to renew their contracts every two years for cheaper prices in order to keep their customers? Instead they are unknowingly promoting this "cycle" that does nothing but utilize about 50% of their customer service resources to keep entertaining all these "new" customers.

Can you get that in HD on your television? I've heard you can get it through Apple TV. My parents are wealthy enough to keep their cable bill and give me their WatchESPN password.

1080 baby! I actually made a step up getting rid of cable... Cox was only sending 720 to my house.
