so no one in the house has any internet for their devices and I figure out my oldest son in watching a movie on megashare...he even had the movie paused...I close out of there and bam...I now have my 50mb/sec dl speeds...why would that eat up all the bandwidth?

Streaming a movie shouldn't cause a 50 connection a drop of sweat. I can only get 10 where I live and it is nothing to have 3 or 4 devices streaming and someone on XBox Live and have no issues.

It's possible that your router is shite and cant handle what y'all are throwing at it.

I actually was hoping this was the case...I lowered the mtu level to 1492 from 1500 and its not dropping connectivity anymore...if its starts fing up again, I will just go get a new router. This one is pretty old, 4 or 5 years old. Seems to be working fine now.
