I would like to see each episode, or couple of episodes, focusing on different people and different storylines. So instead of following the same core group doing basically the same stuf Rick and crew do, we can have one shots that flesh out the Walking Dead universe. Like an episode about that soldier who was in the tank in Atlanta in the first season.
They already do this with the web shorts, but it would be cool to see something with actual actors and production value.

This was Frank Darabont's original intention. It was one of the reasons he "left" the show.

Yes! This is exciting news. Darabont's original idea is coming to fruition

Yeah the first episode of season 2 was supposed to be the back story on the solider in the tank and his unit and how they got over ran in Atlanta.

Hopefully it will have less drama queens.
Maybe it'll be a whole series about Lori and Carl's time before Rick found them.
