ECB cut interest rates to record lows today. All in a reaction to Russia's intentions and the EU's dependancy on Russian oil. it may come to a head with certain countries.

then we have ISIS going absolutely nuts.

I heard over the weekend that China was getting aggressive in Malaysia/Thailand.

Everyone is mad or at least annoyed with US.

Domestically US is a mess with immigration/political system/foreign policy. Really scary to imagine a US governemnt that is not strong on foreign policy. People forget that Eurasia is pretty much a huge battlefield in terms of World History.

Foreign nations don't have to go to war with us. All they have to do is influence the politics here and watch us implode on our own stupidity.

We're in it - slow motion. We're like we were from late 1939 to late 1941 - except, this time, we don't really seem to realize it.

This threat was as clear as day when the Taliban took over in Afghanistan. The exportation of terrorism has been a long, slow process, but they are on the cusp of actually having a real state (Afghanistan was close, but, essentially and ungovernable area, it was more of a laboratory).

This one will be different in many ways - very multi-focused. Russia will make plays to re-establish old imperial or Soviet boundaries, China will make some grabs. Africa will descend into chaos, and Europe will be heavily targeted by the caliphate, having seen such a significant growth in muslim populations throughout Europe, now is the time to start actions.

And the West will dither and dally until it is too late. Unfortunately, that's how I see it. I mean, we're not going to nuke them. We're not going to oppose them and be seen as "racist". So, they've already won. Just a matter of counting the years until it's resolved.

Conditions are as ripe as they've been since 1914 in Sarajevo

I think the paradigm of a world war has changed though. If 10-15 major powers got into a shooting war, we wouldn't recognize it as a world war. I think it would all be very measured....tit for tat ...none of the major powers want to go "all the way".

You can go back to just about anytime in the last few hundred years and see the world going through problems like this.

Quit letting the 24 hour news shows scare the poop out of you.

The wife and I were discussing this last night. The problem coming is that conventional warfare (identifiable armies squaring off against one another) is out and guerilla warfare is in. No matter how rabid ISIS\ISIL is, when\if we go in there will be a sizable number that melt into the civilian population to poke and prod at us until we leave. Aside from the locals rising up and casting these scum out (which isn't likely to happen), the only way to truly "win" (defined as killing/apprehending enough of them to stop organized military operations between cells) is to go Genghis Khan and obliterate entire communities where resistance is especially pervasive.

We don't have the stomach for that, but they do. We are literally between a rock and a hard place. Do we learn to accept savagery or do we lose a bit of our souls?

On the Russian and Chinese fronts, there will be no war. Putin will push and push until the West puts up a serious defense. He's like a child testing the limits with his parents. Making Poland, Lithuania, etc part of NATO and opening a base or three there will piss him off but all that will come of it is rhetoric. If Ukraine becomes a member though, it could become the new East/West Germany.

China is happy to sit back and slowly buy all our debt and eventually own us.

Savagery is all around and always will be. if some one doesn't know this they should read more and get out some.

USA has no soul to lose.

And the ME needs to take of the ME. We tried and it didn't help.

Some of you on here are frightening.

You all need to just step away from that ledge. WWIII is not coming. Quit watching Fox, CNN, and MSNBC for awhile.

Do you think this might just have a little something to do with US foreign policy over the last, I dunno, few generations? You know, being everywhere and imposing our will?

These talking points are comical. DoD budgets are at an all time high; the United States military is more robust and advanced than any potential enemy says any credible source.

Yet we are weak, and nobody fears our might and bluster.

Some of you assholes need to get a grip on reality.

We elected a president who did not understand the world of the nation that he was chosen to lead. He saw everything from a populist/underclass perspective and was incredibly naive. He failed to realize what Pax Americana was and what it took to keep it in place. His actions have both destabilized the world and constrained the American economy.

I understand that we will have Democrats in office. It is the nature of the two-party system. But, they need to be pragmatic and Democrats like Clinton and Kennedy (sans the affairs) who put America first and understood the world that we live in. Democrats like Carter and Obama are dangerous for America and seem to be elected as reactions to failed interventions/wars (Vietnam and Iraq). My hope is that we will swing back the other way after what is about to happen in the next 2 years. Obama clearly has no clue as to what to do because all of this is beyond him. And, he cannot adapt. His pride/ideology will not let him.

But, we have Obama now. He stays out of their business. That doesn't work either. What exactly does the world want?
