This guy must think we're idiots. The Saudis created Frankenstein's monster that is ISIS, and now they want us to waste American blood and treasure to put it down. Why have we been supplying the Saudis with all these weapons over all these years if they're not going to use them to police their own back yard? I heard one analyst say that the reason the Saudis and the Turks don't want to do anything is because they're afraid of the blowback, and would rather see bombs going off in New York and D.C. than Istanbul and Riyadh. If that's their attitude, I say "screw'em".

quote:

The king of Saudi Arabia has warned that extremists could attack Europe and the U.S. if there is not a strong international response to terrorism after Islamist extremists seized a wide territory across Iraq and Syria.

While not mentioning any terrorist groups by name, King Abdullah's statement appeared aimed at drawing Washington and NATO forces into a wider fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, and its supporters in the region. Saudi Arabia openly backs rebels fighting Syrian President Bashar Assad, but is concerned that the breakaway al Qaeda group could also turn those very same weapons on the kingdom.

"I am certain that after a month they will reach Europe and, after another month, America," he said at a reception for foreign ambassadors Friday.

Official Saudi media carried the king's comments early Saturday.

"These terrorists do not know the name of humanity and you have witnessed them severing heads and giving them to children to walk with in the street," the king said, urging the ambassadors to relay his message directly to their heads of state.

Saudis have funded much of the terrorism in the M.E. I was being facetious.

As I've posted before. The Saudis are the targets of ISIS. They are a kingdom. Same as UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, etc. ISIS hates kingdoms. They want Caliphate... world wide govt by Islamic law.

S.A. has been paying protection money for decades. It's like the old saying 'feed the alligator other people so they will eat me last.'

SA wants nothing more than for ISIS to be destroyed. But they can't do it because their country is Islamic.

They've help create something which now could threaten them on some level, and know they can't do anything about it so they use vague warnings to get us to do their dirty work

And this is why Islam is so horrible. SA can't wipe out terrorists who convert by the sword and behead innocent civilians on YouTube because they're "the same religion".

I have a hard time respecting anybody who practices this religion, no matter how progressive or peaceful they are as an individual.

Yeah, that's pretty much it.

The Saudis see the U.S. as a big, strong, dimwitted bully that can be easily manipulated into doing its dirty work, much like the Jaws character from the James Bond movies. Here's what Robert Gates had to say about King Abdullah in his book:

quote:

Abdullah, a heavyset man in his eighties with a history of health problems, was very sharp and did not mince words as he smoked one cigarette after another. He wanted a fill-scale military attack on Iranian military targets, not just the nuclear sites. He warned that if we did not attack, the Saudis “must go our own way to protect our interests.” As far as I was concerned he was asking the United States to send its sons and daughters into a war with Iran in order to protect the Saudi position in the Gulf and the region, as if we were mercenaries. He was asking us to shed American blood, but at no time did he suggest that any Saudi blood might be spilled. He went on and on about how the United States was seen as weak by governments in the region. The longer he talked, the angrier I got, and I responded undiplomatically. I told him that absent an Iranian military attack on U.S. forces or our allies, if the president launched another preventive war in the Middle East, he would likely be impeached; that we had our hands full in Iraq; and that the president would use military force only to protect vital American interests.

Of course they can do something about it, but they don't want to because they think they can dupe us into doing it. Where did you get this idea that people can't wage war on people of their same faith? It's been done throughout history and Islam is no exception. During WWI and WWII, Christians slaughtered Christians by the tens of millions. Saddam and Assad have primarily killed Muslims while protesting Christians, and the Saudis had no problem massacring Muslims when the Arab Spring spread to Bahrain, so I don't know what you're talking about?

The Kingdom is in a fragile state, they are afraid.

They can but survival of the Kingdom is first and foremost in their minds.

I seem to recall they have an army and a fairly decent air force.

They can get off their arse and do something about it.

Thanks for the link, Trackfan, but some historical perspective about S.A.

1. They have ALWAYS hated jihadists. Even though Osama was a Saudi he was banned from S.A. He was the prodigal son. His father made money as a capitalist and he felt guilty. Think Teddy Kennedy becoming anti-capitalist after spending all of his grandfathers money.

2. In Gulf War I the Saudis were crucial in our defeat of Saddam Hussein. They not only provided launching bases but the sons of Royals led the fighter attacks. They put their blood on the line.
The mistake was made by Colin Powell who did not allow us to destroy his army in retreat...resulting in Gulf War II.

3. I really think that Tre'Davious White should return kick offs for LSU. He is faster than lightening.

You think that fixes Arab Spring part Deuce in the Kingdom, if it were to happen?

The Saudi duality leads to some confusing and seemingly conflicting ideals.

All the Arab states put blood and treasure on the line for Desert Storm, including Egypt, Syria, and Libya, and I don't think Saudi Arabia and Kuwait should be given a pat on the back for fighting for their own survival, anyway.

You were doing alright until here, but with all due respect, this statement is based two nonsensical premises, and I'm sure you're smart enough to know what they are.

Nope. I'm not smart enough to chip my ball onto the green from 10 feet off the fringe. Please explain it to me.

If you don't realize that's their form of shaking hands and he was being respectful than you're a crazy tin foil hat republican. I bow to asian captains where I work whenever I meet them and they are always impressed that I do that.

Wrong wrong wrong. Powell and Bush the non Retard were right leaving Saddam in place to buffer Iran and other concerns. Bush the Retard came along and ruined that.
