He jumped over the "shield" in front of the punter. And it's illegal because the rules say so more than likely because of what the poster above me said.

Because it would put the Big10 white players (or just players) at a disadvantage.

Former deep snapper here, a snap puts the snapper in a very vulnerable and unstable position putting the the opposition at an unfair and unhealthy advantage. From my memory it is also illegal to make contact with the deep snapper until he picks his head up after the snap.

It's also cheap and easy. With practice, you could block every kick.
