I made this exact argument on here about a year or so ago and was excoriated for it.

Not only did we win the Vietnam War, it was actually one of the most complete and decisive victories in the history of modern warfare.

It is true that our US armed forces did indeed kick arse in a heroic and honorable fashion in Vietnam.

I'm very proud of those young men and young women.

Sure, there were some who committed crimes, but, there are always some bad apples.

Thank your local Vietnam Vet.

Yes it is. NVA and VC casualties were basically twice as high as US casualties in almost every engagement. But you would never know that from watching the news broadcasts of that day.

The Tet Offensive is a prime example. The media painted a picture that this was the "turning point" of the war that "proved the war was unwinnable". The truth of the matter is that the Tet Offensive destroyed the Viet Cong as a combat effective formation and gutted every NVA formation that was committed to battle. It was nothing short of an unmitigated disaster for the Communists.

The casualty count on the commie side was more than twice... We never lost a battle and like Darth said, dominated the battlefield in all aspects. You can thank the politicians for that one. Sounds kind of familiar, eh?

The only problem is the NVA had millions of more people to draw soldiers from. We could have won but it would have taken forever and at heavy cost.

Bc one of our boys was/is worth more than any number of them. I don't know what we won but whatever it was, wasn't worth the losses.

Not as high as you think. After the Linebacker (I and II) raids, the NVA went to table for peace. Had we been able to do that earlier, the war would have been shortened.

This was what triggered my visceral hatred of any national DEM leader.

Since then, not one national DEM has been worth shite. They are the antithesis of what America was supposed to be - with all its warts, America was still the best thing to ever happen to mankind. Since then we have been on a downslope and this administration has been the tipping point. We will never recover.

The NVA were the best and most fanatical enemy soldiers ever faced by US military forces.

Many would have good points about other enemy soldiers we've faced in history, but, I would argue that, at best, they were equals to the NVA/VC.

The Japanese soldier was also fanatical, but, I submit that the NVA/VC were more tactically proficient.

Those little NVA/VC bastards were some seriously good soldiers.

Not so fast. Best? Germans in WWII. Fanatical? Japanese.

You're joking, right?

And what would you have to back up that argument?

There are verified instances of Japanese field forces inflicting heavy casualties and even battlefield defeats on US forces, including largest surrender of American forces since the Civil War. As for eh NVA, there was not even one instance of them inflicting anything resembling even a minor defeat on American forces during the Vietnam War.

They were good, but I'd not put them in the same category as Japanese Special Naval Landing Forces or the Waffen SS.

disagree, they were good, not so fanatica, just business like, hell they'd been fighting frogs for quite a while before we came along, like anywhere from a century to a thousand years

Serious question from a novice history buff... If we won the war, why did it end with marines plucking people off of the embassy in Saigon?
