I want to know what y'all think about the new playoff system. do you think we should stick with 4 teams or should they extend it to 8 or 16 or more and why? what do you think about them using a selection committee instead of just using the BCS system to determine the 4 teams?

I like 4 but wish they would have kept the BCS formula to decide the 4. No more than 6 with 2 byes. I hate the committee idea

Well, if 'Bama does not get an automatic bye to the championship game, I'll be pissed... : |

4 with BCS would've been great. The committee will have biases that the BCS didn't. If I had to pick the number, I'd say 6. The top 2 still benefit, but every conference can be represented if they have a deserving champion.

I agree. I don't get why every commentator on espn is so happy that computers aren't apart of this. I mean how often did the BCS system get it wrong?

I don't like the idea of a "committee" to select the teams. This is going to cause a shite storm at the end of the season since this is so objective. Say what you want about the BCS system but more often than not it pitted the best 2 teams against each other in the end. I think if they would have kept the computer based system it would work out better.

Need 8 teams.
Hate the idea of the committee.
Better than BCS yes, but not by much we still will have many flaws.

The rest of the country is getting SEC fatigue, and the Mulligan Bowl was the last straw. I think they're just happy that it's not automatically an SEC team vs. someone else anymore.

Let's see how 4 over 2 works out before changing it.

As long as the premise remains intact, taking the best 4 teams regardless of conference, then I'm good with it.

But even the slightest hint of favoritism towards anybody, and I'm fine with reverting back to the BCS and using their 4 top teams instead.

Zero tolerance for anyone trying to circumvent the rules, zero.

I don't really see how the BCS was so terrible. the only years I can think of that a playoff was really necessary was 03 with OU LSU USC and Michigan(?) 04 with OU USC Auburn (don't know who fourth was) maybe 07 and 2011.

It's a great concept, but the committee is a bad angle on it. Leaves it open to more of an opinion than the BCS did in my mind.

College football has evolved and grown so big that it's tough to determine one overall champion. You can't exactly figure it on the field. There are entirely too many teams.

If you could have a 14 team conference and everyone plays everyone in 13 weeks, that could determine the playoff spots with the champs of each conference. But you are then killing any chance of OOC games which make college football great. It would end up being NFL 2.0.

For now we have the 4 team playoff and we'll have to go from there. Maybe there can be a happy medium one day. Until then, I'll still gladly watch college football. And as always

On the March Madness selection show for 64 teams the hours afterward focus on who got screwed and who got in. Having a selection of 4 football teams will go welll .

Get ready for more drama than you can imagine.

We had a 2 team playoff and are now going to a 4 team playoff with a selection committee involved. What could possibly go wrong with that?

I'll adapt, but the BCS system was pretty damn good for LSU.

I have said from day one, the number of teams in the playoff should be 8. They should use the 4 BCS bowls as the first playoff game, then semis the next week and championship the following week. If you use this formula, the bowl games take on a new importance.

For all the hate the BCS got, it worked almost every year by getting the two best teams to play for the title. I have never seen the allure of allowing more than that to play for a title, but sheep will sheep so now we have a playoff.

For years people said we needed "a playoff", now we have one and people want a different playoff. Simple stated, people are stupid and just want to bitch.

I've been saying for years, "if you want to "fix" what's wrong with college football, find a way to achieve more regular season scheduling equality among bcs conferences and teams" and that a 4 team playoff is no better than the BCS, just different.

( thread from 2008)
