You know what the most amazing thing about capitalism/free markets is?

It's extremely new on the timeline of human history, not really becoming dominant until Holland and England started liberalizing their economies in the early 19th/late 18th century.
Most human societies up until then were either culturally collectivist, mercantilist, or heavily militaristic. (Think Sparta)
Here is a learn liberty video on it:

Pretty simple history lesson on capitalism. Not sure if I agree with the second reason she gave for "why" it happened though.

Not sure why this matters. Am I missing something?
ETA: kinda obvious though

Because it is always interesting as frick, and you should stop pretending you don't realize that.

Wonder what Milton would say about this?

hmm. i am not sure why that makes capitalism particularly amazing, unless you are suggesting that capitalism is somehow the culmination of all of human economic history. and if you are, you would be committing a pretty gross teleological fallacy.
and innovation is a necessary, but not sufficient, explanation for the rise of industrial capitalism in the nineteenth century. it didn't hurt that the dutch and english had enormous overseas empires (the professor dismissed "exploitation" much too blithely IMO) nor did it hurt that european governments - not merely private companies - were directly involved in industrialization.
