I thought I was in a time warp yesterday

Was in a place that had CNN on, and the headline read "U.S. weighing airstrikes in Syria".
I thought we went through this last spring? Only difference now is we'd be bombing on the same side as Assad, when in the spring John Kerry wagged his finger and said it was a certainty that bad things would happen if we didn't bomb Assad.
If you could help me make sense of this I'd appreciate it.
