I'm sure most of you know this fact, but the fact that Louisiana has the highest rate of incarceration in the United States, which has the highest rate of incarceration in the world is definitely one that makes you ponder why. I've seen some data that shows the South (Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama etc.) has the highest rates of incarceration, much more so compared to the other parts of the country.

My question is, why do you think Louisiana has the highest incarceration rate in the country, and therefore the world? Is it because of our state laws being much more strict than any other states? Has Louisiana always had a tough-on-crime attitude?

I can only assume it's because it's profitable to those in power.

Drug laws.

And the penchant of our prosecutors and judges to keep people in the system as long as possible, generating as much cash as they can through probation, drug classes, aversion programs etc., which results in an extended period in which the "criminals" can screw up and end up behind bars.

Louisiana also has more government employees with a gun and badge than any other state.

I know Angola had a reputation as the most notorious prison in the United States for a long time, and I'm sure it is probably one of the more well-known prisons in the country.

top 5 states for incarceration rates % of white residents
1. 63.7
2. 59.1
3. 72.2
4. 68
5. 70.4

Bottom 5 states for incarceration rates % of white residents
46. 93
47. 80
48. 81
49. 86
50. 95

I think Holder needs to start an investigation. It's obvious the bottom 5 have way to many white people.

Its big business in Louisiana, which is why we will be among the very last to legalize marijuana, among many many many other things.

We just need to incarcerate more white people on trumped up charges like being in the wrong part of town and expired inspection stickers.

Is that true? Largest police force for a state sporting only 6 Congressional seats?
