not near downtown, but go to la cantera just north of town
there are two courses there...I prefer the palmer

I've heard the Brackenridge Park course is a nice public course. Never played it but it's always ranked pretty high on golf.com's best public courses in Texas. There's a Pat O's on the Riverwalk that seems like a logical place where LSU fans would gather but I dunno

La Cantera and TPC SA are both very nice and a little further out of town.
