Watching all of this stuff with ISIS and a thought occurred to me about how this rogue/stateless army trudging through the Middle East reminds me of the type of thing that we see in movies or in comic books with villans and their henchmen creating chaos and brutality.

It is surreal.

What is the best correlation here of art imitating life? Where do we see some kind of equivalient in movies or comic books?

Interested in comparisons.

But I mean, really, except for the actual name.

But, you knew that.

The Ten Rings from Iron Man 1 seems to be a pretty good comparison.

Yes, Iron Man 1 is a good comparison. I was also thinking a bit about what Bain was doing in Batman 3 or even the Joker in Batman 2 where he just wanted to watch the world burn. Obviously, those are not the scope of ISIS, but the same kind of evil intent.

Dark Lord/Orcs from Lord of the Rings. Savages controlled by a supreme leader who want nothing more than to take over the world with their brutal way of life.

Do the Fremen count?

ETA: Cobra is probably the best answer

SPECTRE- they pretend to be ideological, but they're really about the dollars.
