How long should I wait to get a qb if I miss out on a top 3 qb.

In a 12 team, standard scoring league.
Say someone takes Brees, Payton, and Rodgers all very early. What round should I be looking to draft a qb in?

I know, it is a very general question. But I have always had a tendency to draft qbs to high, so I am going to try and not go too early this year.

Just depends if there's a guy you like more than others.

The draft should control when to take one. If there's a run of QBs in a particular round and you see the tier 2 guys going and you like one then jump on one.

Generally you can wait till round 5-6 and still end up with a pretty solid guy.

One of Foles/Romo/Brady/Dalton will be there after the 6th..trust me.

Dalton was a top 3 or 4 QB last year in Fantasy.

Depends on who you want. If you want Stafford, Luck or Brady, you'll just have to anticipate and hope you start a QB run. Prolly rounds 4 or 5.

If you want Ryan, Romo, Kaep, Cutler, Rivers, etc..you can hold off until 8th or 9th and wait until this tier starts getting drafted.

So general consensus I guess would be looking around round 4-6?

Is it a good idea to try and get one of the big 3 early? Or is better to get a RB and/or WR in the first 2 rounds, and if one pop up in the 3rd/4th, get them?

It really just depends on how your draft plays out and what position you are picking. I for example was the 4th pick. By the time I got to my 2nd pick all of the Big 3 were gone. I took Stafford at the beginning of the 3rd because I wasn't confident that the QBs I wanted were going to be there 20 picks later.

I got Ryan in the 11th of a 12 man league last weekend. Russell Wilson went undrafted in a 10 man league this weekend.

There is value late.

Tough to predict the rounds as every draft is different. If you can get Stafford a few rounds after the big 3, may be worth it. Otherwise, I would wait until at least 8-10 QBs are off the board.

To me, there is little difference between Luck, Ryan, Foles, RG3, Cam, Brady, Romo, Cutler, Kaep, Wilson, or Rivers. Throw in the big 3 + Stafford, and that gives me 15 QBs to choose from. I can wait until 10 are gone, then grab 2 of those available in the next 2 rounds and play match-ups all year.

Perhaps you only like 7 of those listed above. In that case, I would wait until the big3 + Stafford and 4 others are off the board. You'll still likely get at least 1 of the ones you like.

Targeting a certain round for any position is amateurish IMO.

I would say 7th or 8th at the earliest. That's Tom Brady, Matt Ryan territory. You can probably get a Romo or Wilson, which is fine, a few rounds after that.

Well said. Is it really worth using a 4th-5th rd pick on one of these QBs knowing that 1-2 of these will almost assuredly be available after the 10th rd:

Luck, Ryan, Foles, RG3, Cam, Brady, Romo, Cutler, Kaep, Wilson, or Rivers.

I personally would wait til ~6th rd before I considered drafting ANY of the above QBs. If the 6th rd hits and all of the above QBs are available, at that point I would seriously consider drafting Luck/Ryan/Foles (I consider these 3 to be >>>> the rest but even that is arguable). If it is the 6th round and 10 owners have QBs then wait til the 11th and grab whoever was ignored.

I think the absolute worst thing you can do is draft a QB10-12 in the 6th rd. At that point wait til the 10th or 11th and get your qb.
