BATON ROUGE – As the final week of competition for the LSU starting quarterback job opens on Monday, neither sophomore Anthony Jennings nor freshman Brandon Harris can complain they have not been coached.

Not only has each received the experienced, skins-on-the-wall guidance from NFL quarterback teacher turned LSU offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Cam Cameron, each attended the trending camp of quarterback guru George Whitfield Jr. in San Diego over the summer.

This was discussed at length over the summer FWIW.

Everyone gushed over Harris and applauded him for being invited and participating in the camp. Whitfield tweeted specifically about him and his upside.

And everyone conveniently ignored the fact that Jennings was also there.

Rant in a nutshell.

The hysteria of the off season gets stronger as the season opener gets closer.

Whitfield was as impressed with Harris as were the recruiting services, where he was a top-five dual-threat quarterback in the nation...

There isn’t a quarterback in this class with his arm talent,” Whitfield told 247Sports. “There isn’t one kid. He will develop, and he will get bigger. He’s going to be playing after college. He’s smart.

“He’s wide-eyed. He cares.”

I don't care who the starting QB is, just play steady management football, don't turn the rock over and score some points and JUST WIN BABY!!!

I would hope that this would be a no-brainer. But it isn't for many on here.

Malachi went to the camp with Harris and apparently was very impressive. Bruce Feldman couldn't stop praising him.

Yeah... I'm sure Harris was awesome in a camp environment. When I personally watched him in the High school playoff game against Covington he looked like a man among boys and could see why he was a highly recruited prospect.

Bot on the other hand he sure didn't look so awesome when he faced a motivated Covington defense in his face. Harris was putting the ball on the ground and making errant throws to the other team. It is a totally different world when facing an opponent who wants to knock your head off and some very talented players can't handle that kind of pressure.

I'm not sure what Les will decide but I trust he will make the right decision and if it happens to be Harris that says a lot that the coaching staff thinks Harris can handle such pressure. I think it will only help Jennings if he is tagged the starter that he was able to hold off a motivated and very talented Harris and Win the starting job.

I don't think either one will "win" the job until a few games into the season.

before SEC play would be the goal i'd imagine

But that's not how it works... If Jennings steps on the field first snap you would have to consider him winning the starting job.

Can Jennings lose it? Absolutely, but I wouldn't think Les is going to pull Jennings if he has success moving the ball just to see how well Harris can do. And this goes vice-versa if Harris is the one taking the first snap against Wisky.

for the time being, I guess so. miles said it himself that they will pick a QB based on gameplan.
