Wouldn't it be smart to work on 4th down situations live during a game?

Punt team needs practice too.

And why would they reveal their good plays in the preseason?

Deflection.

And I think technically it's a correct answer.

Albeit a stupid question, it is where the league is going. Kicking game eventually will be obscelete if the NFL keeps harping on collisions and player safety

That was a joke fool

And I've never in my life taken roids. HGH, yes when I tore my knee and broke my hand. Never steroids though

Matter of fact I've really never taken any drugs at all. Something I'm kind of proud of

A lot of the people battling for roster spots end up making the team based on their play on special teams so seeing a bunch of punts, field goals and kickoffs is a good thing.

Why do teams punt in the regular or postseason? Its illogical in most situations.

Actually, yes punting is illogical on most 4th down situations, at least in the NFL. Read Do Firms Maximize? by a Berkeley statistics professor. He analyzes data from last decade of NFL games to point out when its better to kick than go for it.

Unfortunately, coaches would rather use rules of thumb developed decades before the development of modern offense.

4th and less than 2, you should never be punting. and you should never kick a field goal from inside the 5. At least not until the end of the game when situations make 3 points or variable value.

I think the repercussions from a failed 4th down attempt are worse than one succeeding. I still remember that one time BB went for it on 4th against the then-Peyton Colts and lost the game...
