If a show like In Living Color came out today, would they put SNL out of business? Only ask cause its Saturday night, thus rerun of SNL is on, and it's a really poor selection (Trevon/Zimmerman opener------Ferguson shooting), and it really sucks. And SNL has sucked for a few years....

In Living Color today would likely be on Comedy Central or some cable channel so it wouldn't really compete with SNL. If Chappelle's Show couldn't kill it, nothing can.

Maybe but a ton of the stuff that made In Living Color great you couldn't do these days so it'd have to be more like SNL. Men on Film would get Fox burned down.

You sure it's not that you've just gotten older? Because In Living Color couldn't hold SNL's jock strap back in the day, just like Mad TV, and it wouldn't be any different today. SNL gets the best comics available.

But was Chapelle on Saturday night at 10:30 and lasted 1.5 hours? If so I'd agree.

Because that was a great era of SNL, which it isn't in now.

That doesn't mean other good people aren't out there. I mean SNL didn't have Carrey, Wayans, David Alan Grier, Will Sasso, Aries Spears, etc.

yeah, but it was going up against a pretty solid SNL cast. I was a fan of both shows though.

Carvey
Hartman
Myers
Farley
Sandler
Spade
Chris Rock
Meadows
Norm McDonald

Quick answer is a) Yea I'm getting older. Are we not all getting older? b) I know what your getting at and yes, I've watched SNL since I was a wee boy. I'd lie if I said my age didn't influence my view of SNL. I watched during all the great years, the average years, and the suck arse years. I complained when they were horrible in the late 70s, mid-80s, mid 90s, post 9/11 years....

Age no. Experiance watching an episode live at that moment in time, sure.

Based on this, IMO they are and have been horrible several years.

Exactly my point! Could SNL today survive a crew like In Living Color? Or maybe SNL was feeling the competition from ILC, so they had to bump up their game?

TV is way more PC these days. SNL still has to be fairly safe and PC while cable shows can push the boundaries more. That gives them an advantage. SNL in the early 90s was doing stuff they couldn't do today. The stuff on Chappelle's Show would never be allowed on a broadcast network. It's the same problem all other network shows have when compared to cable.

TBH, I went back last year and watched a few In Living Colors and they really weren't that funny. The cast is impressive but just not that funny.

And SNL always sucks "now". No matter what year it is, no matter who the cast is, it was always better in the past.

This much is true.

But funny how SNL pushed the envelope for years, paid a fine to the FCC, got ratings and some of their best years.

Now, no so much. I somewhat disagree in that they can do what they use to do, they have just become more........

What's the word looking for? Pussified? Sensitive? Whoa-Is-Me''ish? Don't Hurt Feelings'ish?

They are not and have not been cutting edge for years. Sad but true.

The cast was impressive, but the show wasn't?

I agree with ILC last couple of years, but for the bulk of their run, I think they were cutting edge.

Same as SNL use to be.....cutting edge. Not scared of putting it out there. Unlike today and for the past several years.

It doesn't stand the test of time but it was funny then.

I totally agree with your 2nd sentence but not the 1st. Nobody thought it sucked in the early 90's, they thought they weren't Eddie's years or Belushi/Akroyd.

Ironic you say this. My son and his friends just finished watching Raw vs Nitro documentary. Their comments during the entire show....Wrestling was the shite back then! Nothing like today...

The last two seasons of SNL have been the best seasons since the Will Ferrell days. There's always some crappy episodes, but there have been a much larger number of really good episodes.

In Living Color doesn't hold up for shite

This is coming from someone who loved the show, and watched religiously while it was on the air.

If really isn't that funny at all, unless you are a teenager in the 90's...... Or maybe a black person.

A lot of future stars but not funny, at least not funny anymore. I didn't watch it much when it first ran.
