Considering he was in a bar, maybe he was drunk. Wouldn't be wise to allow a drunk guy to drive a car full of children. I don't see a problem with what the bar patrons did.

My ex used to do that with my kids instead of asking me to take them. She'd leave them in the car with the engine running and tell them to honk the horn if anyone tried to get in. Wish someone would have beaten her arse.
