Does $25,000 builder's fee sound right or excessive for ~2,400 sq. ft. home in Alabama?

Seems dumb to charge a flat fee.
I'd try to negotiate a cost plus contract.

I am interviewing builders and they are all about that 10% fee.
Not sure how I feel about it yet though. Seems like a lot on a build over $200k.
My last realtor had a graduated scale with a fixed percentage up to a certain amount and then lesser percentages as the price went up. That makes sense.

It's the divorce fees that will get you when trying to build your own house.
