Just to be clear - Ethan Pocic has NOT been named starter. It's speculation

LINK

Since everyone refused to read the link in the other Pocic thread that is clearly jumping the gun...

quote:

Ethan Pocic appears to have landed a starting job — at least for the first game. Pocic, a 6-foot-7, 300-pound sophomore from Illinois, has a good shot at starting in place of Elliott Porter in LSU’s season opener against Wisconsin on Aug. 30. “Ethan Pocic will play in the first game, if not start,” coach Les Miles said on his radio show Wednesday night.

According to multiple offensive linemen ... He's the smartest guy in the film room and on the field. If he's physically ready and is one of our five best lineman... I am all for him starting.

I see Barrett jones with a higher upside.

But he's not expected to start. Also, literally every single post in that thread assumed he was starting because of your post and because they didnt read the link. That's just not accurate.

They literally have nothing in common except for being big football players.

and something that went unstated, and assumed too, in that statement was Porter being a little banged up. If "nicked" to the point where it's affecting his practices [Porter] then you have to assume the backup will at least get time.

So I interpret it as if Porter struggles for any reason, including injuries, Pocic is next in line. IF Porter has injuries that are, and will continue to, effect practices Pocic MAY start THIS GAME.

Don't get me wrong, Pocic is awesome. I hope to see him starting at tackle next year because I think he'll be a pretty good one.

Barrett jones and pocic both:

Play(ed) multiple positions on the line
Smartest lineman on the team
Each saw playing time as a freshman

Who pissed in your Cheerios?

Has anyone said he isn't expected to start, or that Porter is expected to?

It's at least a welcome change from the onslaught of QB controversy posts.

The Plejaren Federation knows that Jeff Grimes wants the best 5 OL's on the field and that would include Pocic as the starting Center making all the OL calls.

Grimes is looking for four more like Pocic that are big, strong, very football/OL smart that can meld together and play as one.

Go uo North for most of your OL's if that's what it takes. Bama signed OL's from Minnesota and Iowa this past year. Go where you have to go to find em.
