Has anyone had a ticket in new Orleans changed to a non moving violation? I Had a failure to yield and was looking for some advice.

Yes, they'll do this every time. Show up, have a seat in the courtroom where they tell you, and then people will be called to the back one by one. Explain to the City Attorney that all you're trying to do is keep it off your insurance, you're willing to pay the non-moving fine, and they'll do it every time.

Call the City Attorney's office and ask to speak to someone in traffic and tell them what you want to do. They may or may not do it.

You want off, and you want to skip the BS that goes along with it. Just pay the fine for the law you broke if you do not want to go to court.

Had same problem, called this guy:

You would be insane to go down to that court and deal with that mob of idiots, you would also be an idiot to pay the fine and then pay hundreds in extra insurance premiums for a few years.

I want to say $150-$200 but its been a while, I know it was well worth not going to traffic court in New Orleans.

As others have said, just call the traffic division and be very polite. Explain that you have no problem paying the fine but would really like to keep it off your record. They might still tell you to show up but it's worth a shot. I haven't handled one in Orleans in a long time but it generally works...unless you're in East Baton Rouge.
