The Golf Club lets you design, publish, and play the golf course of your dreams

quote:

The Golf Club has some rough edges and lacks a career mode or any long-term competitions, but its realistic swing mechanics and robust course editor should keep serious golf fans playing for some time.

quote:

Creating a course is a piece of cake. Choose a theme such as urban, alpine, or desert, then set a few key variables, like how many trees, how much water, and how many hills you’d like your course to have. You’ll have a playable course that you can name and publish for anyone to play in minutes.

But the real pleasure is in customizing the random design that the game’s algorithms come up with.

Placing bunkers in strategic locations, repositioning flags, and adding geological features such as rocks and trees throughout the course is enough to add a personal touch and make the course feel as though it was designed by a human mind. This can be done in under half an hour.

Spend a couple of hours and you can dive much deeper into the design mode by raising and lowering terrain, precisely altering fairway width, adjusting the cut of heavy rough, altering green size and slope, and even reshaping and reordering holes.

Really ambitious designers can set about adding a wide variety of details, including storm shelters, bridges, benches, a wide variety of wildlife, clubhouses, and parking lots.

I’m typically not one to devote much time to making my own content, but I spent hours on my courses. And I eventually published my favourite and created a special tournament for it, open to anyone who cares to play.

If enough people do this – and I hope they do – there’s potential for The Golf Club to offer virtually unlimited new golf experiences.

No load times between holes.

I hate to say it, but no real life golf gear and swag in the game will hurt it. Are there any real courses in the game?

This does look like a solid start in competition with EA's meh golf game.

I would care more about real courses than equipment personally

this was my first thought when Pevy was texting me earlier about the game, but if you are able to upload customized content (golf courses) for others to download. Then I bet we would pretty quickly see avid golf gamers recreating some of the more popular national and international courses for others to enjoy. Much like how Operation Sports always had the NCAA Rosters for download a few days after NCAA released.

I mean shite, I could pretty much design TPC Sawgrass, my favorite TW course, based on playing that course a gazillion times on all the TW versions.

So does it have any real courses or players? No career mode at all? The point is basically course creator?

I'm pretty sure you can download courses that people have created to mimic the real life ones.

For what it's worth, I really don't know much about golf. If I got this game, it would be so I can relax with my friends, drink in hand, and play some digital golf.

Will be getting this. I'm sure there are/will be some pretty spot on replicas of Augusta National. And I could see myself designing a course or two

I'll probably wait a couple months to:

A.) See if it drops from $35, and
B.) See how well people have taken on the course creator and their work

I'd like it, but I'd want to play on Xbox and edit on PC. Doesn't look like that's an option without buying it twice.
