I finally decided on the ring and dropped the money on it, it's in my possession now. The next step is talking to her parents.
The hard part about this is that they live 2 hours away and always have something going on. It's impossible to get them away. I saw them this past weekend, but it was for a family party. I wasn't going to try to pull them away and talk to them somewhere like that. Now they are on vacation all week.
I'm on a time line, I have 30 days to return the ring for a full refund. I need to talk to them and pop the question before the 30 day period is up, just in case things don't go over as I expect.

I'm thinking about texting her parents a picture of the ring and telling them that I really need to talk to them soon.
How else should I approach them and let them know we need to sit down and talk?

Call them and tell them that you really need to speak to them in person and ask them when would be a good time for them. Don't send a text.

Don't do that. Just call them and tell them you need to talk to them.

I wouldn't send a picture of the ring. I would just ask them if they were available on x day for a visit.

My now in-laws live about an hour and a half away, I set up a day of golf to ask her dad. I didn't really ask "permission" of her mother.

That will look like a smart move when they tell you how much of a bum they think you are and you can marry their daughter over their cold dead bodies.

Why ya got to be so ruuuuuuuuuuude?

eta, I think a phone call would be fine, explain that it would be difficult to find a chance to meet with them without it being obvious to their daughter/son.

Yeah. You ask the dad. Mom can suck an egg.

True, but considering he's already thinking there's a chance they'll say no....
