Is this even medically necessary for us? Why do we do it? Does this tell our bodies something important that I'm unaware of?

They should have consulted the people replying with their oxygen theory.

I read one it is for oxygyn. 4 hours after awake and 4 hours berfore sleep. More or less. I read this on the shitter out of a readers digest back in the 80s though.

Theory that I found interesting is that it helps to cool the brain.

You won't get more oxygen by yawning vs normal breathing so that doesn't make sense to me.

Do anyone else's ears pop every time they yawn?

ETA: by pop I mean like when you ascend and sounds get louder. I guess decreasing pressure?

I read that a 1 degree change in the temp of the brain can cause all kinds of strange things. That's pretty cool.

Intriguing. I'm gonna try to rapid fire yawn for a few minutes straight and see if I can trip balls.

Never. But I yawn on a plane to make the pressure go away.
