Tea Party of Louisiana Chastizes Vitter on Common Core

quote:

"TPoL has always thought of Senator Vitter as a friend of Liberty, but his statements in support of Common Core are not what we'd have expected from someone who is a defender of Louisiana's children and a champion of Freedom and less government," said spokesman Bob Reid in an emailed statement Monday. "Sadly, Senator Vitter's remarks sound more like the rhetoric we'd expect from a D.C. elitist who doesn't believe that we average citizens are capable of making our own decisions, running our own lives, and raising our own children."

And here's the really good part about the geniuses who run that organization (and makes the conservative/libertarian side look ignorant):
quote:

The lead story on the Tea Party of Louisiana's website Monday morning came with this headline, "Common Core Turns First Wave of Students Gay." It's from the website Broken World News, which proclaims, "If you believe any of the s...t" you read here you are a freaking moron."

Reid said that the group know the article is "labeled satire," but posted it to  "bring attention of the Common Core issue to those who maybe aren't paying attention." He said his group has lots of serious information about Common Core on is website.

What is the deal with Common Core? It's a plan that was actually created by the states, and does not appear to be some monolithic overreach of the federal government. Where am I wrong?

But it's going to turn our kids gay, so it must be stopped.

Common Core was written by a leftist with NO education experience. Research him. He's now in control of the SAT and is revamping that test to match his common core standards. Look into the $$$$$ spent on adopting these standards. THen look at the textbook companies making billions on creating new books to align to the standards. Look into the PARCC consortium, the outfit given government millions to create a new test to test the new curriculums bought to teach to the new standards. It's alllllll about money. This too will go away, as do all education overhauls. The next new thing will come along and people will make millions from it.

There are too many Language Arts standards and many are so nebulous it is unclear how to teach them.

As an example, this is a 5th grade standard:

Analyze how visual and multimedia elements contribute to the meaning, tone, or beauty of a text (e.g., graphic novel, multimedia presentation of fiction, folktale, myth, poem).

How does one expect a 5th grader to ANALYZE this? My first thought is "pictures make a story more fun to read." hahaha What else can be said---by a 10 year old?

I promise you I have and posted my findings here multiple times. I have yet to see any Common Core opponent come anywhere close to providing evidence that this is a federal take-over.

I have to say, as far as people who think Teabaggers are a bunch of idiots - I'm at the top of the list. But this tops even my expectation of their stupidity. Its amazing they can actually inhale and exhale air, let alone form sentences.

Quite simply there has never been a dumber group of Americans. If the Tea Party of Louisiana left Louisiana, we'd probably jump from the 48th smartest state to the 20th smartest state overnight.

Yeah it was all written by one person.

...and it turns kids gay, right?

We'll just "look at it" - and if we ever become as big of am imbecile as you do - maybe we'll have the same thoughts when we "look at it".

I'm sorry you have such a low expectation of our 5th grade students.

You seem really vested in keeping 5th graders as dumb as you were in 5th grade. Why?

Link?

And that is not a standard.

To be fair, many of the original organizers of local tea party groups in Louisiana (Lafayette, BR) can't stand Pat Bergeron and his Tea Party of Louisiana group which has tried to mask itself as some state-wide coalition of the grassroots movement.

It's more like a coalition of half a dozen dumbasses with a website and a so-called consultant on their team.

Wow. I'm actually not an imbecile. I'm a college graduate.
I make no claims that Common Core has an agenda to turn kids gay. Where did you come up with that? You've made an ASSumption that because I don't think the Common Core standards are great (I didn't say they were all bad either) that I'm a "teabagger", an "imbecile", a "moron", and whatever else you called me. Sounds like you are the 5th grader in the room here.

My point is --why is that standard of any importance? We want kids to be able to read and write. We need that foundation before we ask them to ANALYZE unimportant concepts.

I agree that this is just one person being an idiot with the anti common core, but I've seen several others who are just nuts about this shite and it makes me hard to support the tea party cause in instances like this.

I've had perfectly normal people start with me on a rant about how this is all part of the plan for our government to monitor our kids and then give all of the information to the UN as part of the NWO type of shite.

Can we have "too many" Language Arts standards?

I see no problem with this.

As a parent of two kids in grade school, the only problem I have with common core is a few of the teachers seem to be really struggling to implement it.

IMO, any "education reform" that doesn't mandate the study of Greek and/or Latin should be opposed.

If kids don't have the foundation to be able to read and write by the fifth grade, then common core is not the issue.

Because you have to know what you are reading. Otherwise it's just memorizing flashcards.
