Anyone have one of these installed in your back yard? I have some friends that swear by them and have heard others that are not so koo-koo over them. Anyone have experience with these? Are they worth the cost? More effective than 40 citronella candles?

Mist blows away too fast.

That can be mitigated by putting the nozzles closer to the ground instead of up on your fence

IMO, a commercial quality backpack fogger works better in our area if you fog a large diameter. I don't think we need any extra humidity around here!

If the wind is blowing hard you won't have to worry about mosquitos.

I've always heard they're effective systems but getting them refilled is not cheap and if you have patio furniture that shite gets all over it.

does it really get all over patio furniture even if it isn't blowing directly down on it?

You can position the nozzles to spray wherever during instillation, just make sure one isn't directly over whatever you don't want to get misted on. It won't stain anything unless it is leaking or dripping directly on it.

I've got the same system set up in my barn to get rid of flies. System came from Bug Stopmer. Works very well. As stated before, wind would seem like the biggest factor as the mist is vulnerable to wind.

I bought a house that has one installed (Houston, Texas). I figured it was bullshite when I found out the house had it. But honestly, i have not noticed any mosquitos around. My backyard is very shaded with a huge magnolia tree, so it looks like it would be prime for mosquitos to tear my arse up. Im also close to Buffalo Bayou so its a wooded area.

The stuff that sprays out is natural and from a flower (I use Pyrethrin (sp?) from Riptide), mixed with 99% water. It has not stained anything, it doesnt spray directly on my grill, but nothing else has been affected. Ive been in the house for 8 months, but I would recommend it. I honestly dont know what it costs to have installed, i probably wouldnt pay for it myself, but it has been very nice to have.

Not sure what they cost or what it costs to maintain, but I've been using a monthly service that comes and sprays once a month. I have nearly zero mosquitoes and I hang out in my back yard alot.

ETA: cost is about $65/month but every bit worth it.

thanks for the post. we are going to be spending a lot more time on our patio and this summer there have been far more mosquitos than I can remember.

LINK

I installed my own system. Very easy. not much to maintain and reasonable money-wise.
