In their seemingly endless quest to become the most despised group in the world, the controversial anti-gay church, whose messages of hate include holding their famous ‘God hates figs’ signs, have denounced the late actor as a ‘fig pimp’ because he played a gay character in the cult film the Birdcage and a cross dresser in the family film Mrs Doubtfire.

Coincidentally, we just watched The Birdcage last night and laughed hysterically. And I'm a Christian of 20+ years. Those poor kids are being brainwashed into judgmental hatred.

Encore has been playing Robin Williams movies back-to-back all day today. The guy was a great talent.

I think I may have a COnstitutional Amendment that the right and left can agree on. The text reads as follows:

-Proposed Amendment-
The First Amendment protection of Free Speech no longer applies to the Westboro Baptist Church and any churches formed from it.

What do you yall think?

unfortunately, i can't agree.

WBC may be the scum of the earth but I can't rationalize curbing anyone's freedom of speech, no matter how offensive, as long as it's not impairing anyone else's freedom of speech.

As much as I really dislike these guys, I'd have to disagree. Even unpopular speech should be protected.

No doubt. If we allow some special committee to decide which types of speech should be protected and which shouldn't, it would be disastrous.

Damn, there's hope for you yet.

Real freedom includes people doing and saying shite you hate, not just what you like.

These hateful people are not Christians at all - they're simply real-life trolls who feed off the pain of others

While I agree that their 1st amendment rights cannot be fully taken away, I don't think that a ban on the picketing of any funeral by any group would be too restrictive.

Of course 'unpopular' speech should be protected.

But the WBC is not just unpopular - it is taunting - out of place - irrelevant to the event it is uttered at. It is on a par with shouting 'FIRE' in a crowded theatre.

WBC 'speech' is not designed to be dialog - not supposed to be argumentative - it is designed for one thing only - to taunt a captive audience into an emotional riot.

If they just got out on the side of the road with their nonsense, it would be 'unpopular' but could be easily ignored. But they go to a captive audience at a funeral where the people are mourning a private tragedy to do their evil shite.

There should be something to legalize shutting them down.

While I don't agree with a law that cites them in particular, I do agree with SpidermanTuba that there should be an exclusion to the first amendment that makes their one-trick-pony schtick illegal.

Can we all just collectively ignore these POS? Attention is their sustenance; lets stop giving it to them.

FWIW, I have been associated with Primitive Baptist churches for 30 years and am a member of one now. They DO NOT represent ANYTHING similar to what I have experienced with or as a Primitive Baptist.
