Would someone explain these 2 movies to me? Thanks.
A few things.. The old picture at the end of the shining.
Chinatown.. Still don't understand most of it.
So please explain what happens in both. Thanks.

Chinatown is basically the story of a smart arse PI (Nicholosn) uncovering just how fricked up the big and rich people in LA can be. It's discovered at the end that Noah Cross (the ultra rich and powerful guy) is trying to shut his daughter (Faye Dunaway) up about the fact that her daughter (Katherine) is also his daughter. In other words, Cross fricked his own daughter and now he wants his other dusghter/grandaughter for himself. Dunaway's character was trying to protect her but the police killed her and there is nothing anyone can do to stop Cross.

Gotcha. That's what I thought. Also the PI repeated the same mistake he did in his past regret from working Chinatown. He tried to protect a girl and she still got hurt.

Yeah, Chinatown is pretty straightforward while The Shining is one of those things that's open to interpretation.

Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown.

May people died at the hotel. He was the newest addition.
The hotel owns him forever now.

Ok. That's what I suspected also. The 1921 threw me off.

I didn't care too much for Chinatown. I thought it was pretty slow. Very disappointing.

Could be reincarnation too, and forever he is being drawn back to the hotel to kill. Either way, hotel owns him

Cool
Another question.. Why was King at odds with Kubrick on the film?

No one understands The Shining. (apart from cabin-fever, abusive-husband, ability to read minds and murder and ghosts and snow and an axe.)
Everything else is just subtext gibberish.

It would take months to fully understand The Shining, if its even possible. I've watched a bunch of documentaries on it and I'm sure there's still more to learn.

Not trying to pick a fight, but I don't understand how anyone wouldn't recognize Chinatown as a classic. One of the best screenplays to make it tto film.

I don't think it's possible. I'm skeptical that there was some huge meaning (guess I'm agreeing with zamroro) It seems like a bunch of sort-of-themes/clues were strung together and left up to the audience to make their own interpretation.
IMHO, it can't be reincarnation because the last guy killed his family only a decade or so previously so it looks to be some sort of possession going on.
