tl;dr - The waste hemp they used was as good as grapheme, in some instances it was better, at an incredible reduction in cost (it's WASTE hemp!). This was the non-THC version, so no worries with drug laws.
Science is pretty damned cool.

The hemp industry needs a re-branding campaign. It's too bad that it got lumped in with "reefer madness" campaign funded by Dupont in the early 20th century and lumped in with the "war on drugs" in the late 20th century.
