The situation in MO has been disgusting, but looks like some good may come of it

As a consequence of the war zone police have turned Ferguson, Missouri, into during the past few days, Democratic Rep. Hank Johnson of Georgia's 4th Congressional District will introduce a bill to end the federal government's program of providing billions of dollars worth of military equipment free to local police. Anna Palmer and Jake Sherman report:

Great. Now the drug dealers have won. I guess I'll start seeing used syringes in my daughter's schoolyard.

Guam won't tip over though, right?

Maybe the bill will send that equipment to the island, so that they can counter balance the tilt.

What did police do about drug dealers before getting free equipment from the government?

The man is an idiot, but I support this.
Ending this shite, and getting rid of civil forfeiture would be HUGE.

I couldn't help it. I actually like the idea though

I'm going to assume you are joking

The Feds shouldn't be giving anything or connected to local law enforcement like this.
I am glad to see he has moved past his Guam concerns.

Good. This is long overdue. There are way too many departments with their hands on military grade equipment. Only a select few should have it. Bottom line, power corrupts and it's time to end this freeloading of power the WOD has brought us.

This is something that Republicans and Democrats should agree on but you know the Republican house is going to rip this bill to shreds.
Reason: all politics are local. Local republicans are highly intertwined with local law enforcement. Many are friends with the local sheriffs and have family on payroll. Many democrats too, of course.

Yeah, even with the new developments, it's still going to take a long time to shift public opinion around on this issue. There's a reason why we like to put people in jail and have some very punitive laws. We are a bloodthirsty country in a sense.

Thank you. Very true.

What military gifts did they use to kill Michael brown?

Have we actually found a topic where right winger nutters and libs can mostly agree? I mean I think its f'ed up you guys still pretend like racism isn't a factor here - but other than that detail I'm finding we agree that the cops suck.
