A mere $95 billion in July. And to think I doubted his ability to step in, pull out his 'scalpel' (remember that) and get this turned around in such a quick period. In six short years, he has taken the rate of deficit all the way back down to er um er um almost as low as when he took office.
Pretty remarkable that your best year is year 6 and it is still worse than W in 2008. In no particular order, the worst budget deficits in the history of the universe (using actuals and CBO expected are): 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. That is pretty impressive.
But clearly knit-picking here - who hasn't increased the federal debt by $7 trillion? (besides no one).
I will be the first to say W spent like a drunken sailor to he is nothing - absolutely nothing compared to the current incumbent.

The fiscal year-to-date deficit at the end of July was $460 billion, the lowest level since the same period in fiscal year 2008, compared with a deficit of $607 billion for the same period in fiscal year 2013, according to Treasury's monthly budget statement.

pull out his 'scalpel'
You think it is because of smart spending cuts, or rather raping the citizen's wallets more harshly every year?

Yea, but he's improved his handicap significantly so that should count for something!
