Infield Fly Rule Inquiry

Why do offenses essentially get rewarded (or not punished extra) for hitting a ball poorly? Why not eliminate the rule so defenders can choose how they want to play the ball, and so umpires don't have to make this judgment call?

Welcome to the deadball era.
A pop in the infield should not be worth a triple play if two people are on base with zero outs.

That would only be a triple play if the batter was an arse and didn't run to first. But the infield fly is a great rule.

I think he really means three guys on base, because I agree about the batter being an arse in this situation. With three runners on, it's much more likely. .. Yes.
