A majority of East Baton Rouge Parish Metro Council members did not support a so-called 'Fairness Ordinance' that would have provided discrimination protection in housing and in the workplace in East Baton Rouge Parish.

After weeks of public debate, council members finally voted Wednesday night on the ordinance proposed by Metro Council Member C. Denise Marcelle.

Council members voting against the ordinance were: Trae Welch, Chauna Banks-Daniel, Scott Wilson, Ronnie Wilson, Buddy Amoroso, Joel Boe, Tara Wicker, and Ryan Heck. The council members who supported the ordinance were: C. Denise Marcelle, Chandler Loupe, Donna Collins-Lewis, and John Delgado.

Accidentally hit the enter button after typing out the title. My apologies to all who were offended.

I thought that was covered by Federal Law.

Good. People should be permitted to discriminate.

It's not.

In Baton Rouge, you can fire someone or not rent to them specifically because they are "LGBT".

Even though you can make up any reason to fire someone, you can legally list the reason for termination as "homosexual" (if, in fact, they are homosexual).

I know some arguments against this bill are that it would put the burden of proof of discrimination on the person instead of the business and that this is nothing more than a "feel good" bill, which I agree with because when was the last time you were asked your sexual preference on a job application or housing application?
