Survey data released last week by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) indicate that marijuana use among high school students continues to decline, despite warnings that legalization would make pot more appealing to teenagers. In the 2013 Healthy Kids Colorado survey, 37 percent of high school students reported that they had ever tried marijuana, down from 39 percent in 2011. The percentage who reported using marijuana in the previous month (a.k.a. “current” use) also fell, from 22 percent in 2011 to 20 percent in 2013. The CDPHE says those drops are not statistically significant. But they are part of a general downward trend in Colorado that has persisted despite the legalization of medical marijuana in 2001, the commercialization of medical marijuana in 2009 (when the industry took off after its legal status became more secure), and the legalization of recreational use (along with home cultivation and sharing among adults) at the end of 2012:

Of course legalization isnt a bad thing. The only reason people are against it is because it has always been illegal. That is seriously there argument. Those same morons would be arguing against petting your dog if that happened to have been illegal too. "Petting your dog has and always will be illegal. It is a gateway petting scenario. Sure you are petting your dog now, but eventually you will be petting underage kids!!!!!!!!!"

It's because when it's illegal it's bad and dangerous and teenagers love to do stupid stuff.

Make legal and it's no longer cool.

That's bc they've all moved on from pot to cocaine by now. Gateway effect.

Don't think it's so much this. Every drug dealer will sell to a 15 year old. From what I've heard, the shops are very strict with their rules because they are being so closely monitored. Harder to get for kids if the illegal market is basically nonexistent.

Milk is the ultimate gateway. Find me one person who didn't drink milk first. You can't!

Not for or against, but I don't think the logic is that much of a stretch.

You do MJ for awhile, it gets old and you figure you want to try something different.

Not saying that's what happens often, but I get why people would believe that.

Then everything in the world is a gateway. Alcohol, riding a roller coaster, playing sports, that happy feeling when you eat an oreo

Yes it does. You drink Milk because you love the taste. It settles your stomach and you get excited for that glass after dinner. Then, you get bored with that glass of milk. It becomes routine, so you move on to cocaine or heroin.
