Son is wanting to do it, I feel like it will really bring his grades down this semester. He's smart, but he's no 4.0 guy. Usually a consistent 3.3 -3.5. Opinions?

It's not the grades you make, it's the hands you shake.

This thread is going to go all kinds of ways that you didn't expect/didn't want it to go.

He'll be fine. When I was a pledge we had required study hours in the library. I doubt they can still require that though... it's considered hazing now

Calc 2 is going to rape you, period.

Are you the class that doesn't have to take phys 1100?

Edit: Your son, I mean

AKA the weed out class.

To the OP: Frats generally want their pledges making good grades. Should be other people in the frat that took both courses before or taking it now. It also isn't about what you know but who you know

He said he likes Lambda Chi, Sigma Chi, and KA.

He is taking Physics 2101.. I think. I know the first two numbers are 21.

1) IMO, calc 2 is the hardest of the 3 (assuming bachelor of science major)
2) IMO, the second physics is harder than the first
3) grades aren't everything. just get decent grades and network to get your foot in the door somewhere around late junior or senior year. a lot of employers are more comfortable hiring the friendly 3.0 people-person they can put in front of clients than the 4.0 number cruncher that hides in a cubicle.

ETA: both guys serve a purpose and are hire-able, but i'm trying to say you can get a job with just OK grades

Yeah I'm not all that worried about him in Physics, he's usually pretty good with that stuff. He said had to put fourth as much effort to pass calc 1 as he ever has for any school subject. So calc 2 worries me a bit

Agree 100% on all 3.
