while watching pink floyd's 'wish you were here' making-of story, david gilmour briefly mentioned the 'household objects' idea that never came to fruition. basically, the bulk of the album was to feature, yup, household objects as the "instruments". not sure how it would've sounded, but i'm probably glad they decided against it....maybe a bonus track or two on a reissue would've been interesting, but i couldn't imagine sitting through an entire album of that.

The Metallica-Lou Reed album that NEVER HAPPENED. Think of how horrible it would have been. Good thing it NEVER HAPPENED.

I honestly would have liked to have heard that.

That was so terrible. They've been pretty awful for a while now, but that was the pinnacle of Metallica suckage.

That's an interesting idea. It sounds like something that Zappa, Captain Beefheart, or maybe even John Cage would have done. I would have checked it out. It definitely wouldn't have been for most people, but ideas like that are good for the music and art world.

I'm surprised their isn't an interview with Hetfield where he says, "We made Lulu to make people appreciate Load and St.Anger."

it sounds interesting in theory, but i really wonder what i'd be thinking around 30 minutes into it, lol....i dunno, a song or two would be OK, maybe even an EP, but it might've been a fine line between "innovative idea" and "novelty item"...

as dreadful as that album was, i'm surprised it sold as little as it did. i figured the metallica crowd would've still blind-bought it, but i guess word spread fast...

Metallica has so much money that they just don't give a shite about trying to be commercial anymore. They can afford to take risks on stuff they want to do. Unfortunately for them, most of the risks have failed. Lulu, Orion Fest, and Through the Never being the main examples.
