So the lady friend and I had dinner at Jia last night at the Beau. Jia is, in their words a pan-asian restaurant, but in mine they do Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Korean and Vietnamese .

I generally try to stay away from casino restaurants because even though you can't smoke in them, it will tend to still smell like the smoke from the rest of the casino. First, this wasn't a problem. It is well ventilated and smells like a great restaurant. It's very hard to tell you're in a casino. Second, the ambiance of this place was great. It's decorated with traditional asian styles, which i find fairly modern and classy if done properly. The place is well lit, but not overdone. I'm not squinting to see the menu, but it's down enough to keep the place sexy.

We were seated at a teppanyaki station with a few other people. The lady went ahead and got a glass of Murphy's merlot (which i think was their house merlot) and I had an old fashion. Both were very acceptable, but nothing to write home about.

I was craving sushi, so I decided to stick with that regardless of where we were seated. The rolls I went with:

Special Crunchy - Crab Salad, Tempura, & Topped With Smoked Salmon

Bubble Gum - Tempura Shrimp, Cream Cheese, Poached Shrimp & Eel Sauce

Mississippi - Crunchy Roll Topped with Spicy Tuna, Tempura, Masago & Scallions

That is how I would rank them. The smoked salmon was absolutely perfection as was the poached shrimp. All three rolls were extremely well executed.

The lady friend got the chicken and ribeye dinner. These, fried rice, and roasted vegetables were cooked in front of us on the flat top and served after she had a cup of onion and mushroom soup and a green salad.

I had a little of all of her dishes and everything was great. Fried rice was probably the best thing I had all night. It's all about the consistency of the rice. Always.

Anyway, I felt the need to share this because I always hear people recommending the steak house in the Beau, which I've had and enjoyed, but I think this is a better overall restaurant. Next time you're in Biloxi, make a rez at Jia.

Me and my girl go to Jia every time we stay in Biloxi. Top notch for a casino restaurant and honestly not that pricey for the amount you get.

I take it you like tempura with your sushi.

All raw or nothing at all for me.
