William Clapp's dad (Tommy Clapp) was a damn good D lineman here. William prolly won't see the field this year on the OL. Thoughts on Working him on the DL for one year if anybody else goes down ?
He's about the same size as Lacouture fwiw.
Kid also has a mean streak. He plays like a Defensive Lineman.
If you have never seen his highlights, please don't even comment until you have seen them. They are DAMN IMPRESSIVE !
You get the feeling you are watching a defensive lineman.

William Clapp highlights

Tommy Clapp back in the day

Why is there such a panic with the defensive line?

We lost one guy that has had no impact in his career and people are freaking out. Why? Let the young kids get as much playing time and experience this year. This year is a growing year anyways. Next year everyone will be experienced and the tigers can make a run at it.

Quentin has had a pretty good impact while in the game. But ignore the fact that every one ahead of him aside from Josh Downs is in the NFL right now.

Name me a bigger concern than Defensive tackle now that We lost Trey L and Quentin Thomas ?

Did you happen to look at Clapp's highlights ?

What would it hurt to give him a look ?
We are stacked this year on the OL.

Exactly . And just from a depth standpoint. We got wore down last year.

Clapp needs to stay on the O-Line as we may have depth concerns after this year.

So leave him on offense . Give him a few reps at DT
If he shows potential they can have packages for him just like Beckwith worked at LB and DE last year.

What's it hurt ?

We are an injury or 2 away from potentially big problems. For instance, something happens to Locouture, we got issues .
You could say the same about qb, but they are trying everything in their power to prepare for something like that (bringing in Foster)

It distracts him from his O-Line duties while throwing him in a position we're 5/6 deep currently and have athletes recruited to play it as opposed to one who may have "D-Line Potential" playing out off position. We're still good at DT. Well have a 5 man rotation there plus a 4 man rotation at DE if not more.

Should have tried T-Bob at quarterback.

I have zero concerns with our defensive ends.
But Lewis Neal, Tashawn Bowers or any of our ends for that matter ain't gonna be very effective sliding down to defensive tackle against Wisconsin or Bama.

Which they don't need to because you don't really bed more than a 5/6 deep on DT and once you push into your 3rd string reserves for any position you're gonna see a production drop off no matter who you are. Much less on converted duties from a position literally completely opposition of the other. We're gonna be fine depth wise on the D-Line across the board. It's the uncertainty and lack of veterancy that has us biting our nails.

Lacouture (a reserve) is the only healthy DT we have that was good enough to see the field last year, and y'all are all just brimming with confidence like we have 8 Warren frickin Sapp's that redshirted for the hell of it. Y'all are frickin awesome.

No we just believe in our program! We believe in Moffit getting these guys in tremendous shape, and we believe in Brick developing these guys into the players they are! We recruit for guys to come in and contribute early! We are relying on 1 true freshman at the moment, can't wait for the second one to get cleared, and they are both 3rd stringers. We have 1 TS and 3 RSFR meaning all of these guys have been in the program over a year now! I am extremely confident in our coaching staff and think we are blowing things completely out or proportion.

The coaching staff could be concerned as well. We will never know.

Not to mention our latest slew of NFL DT's have been majority of 2/3 and occasionally 4 year players. As opposed to 3/4 and occasionally 5 year players that other programs have , most of which don't even sniff a draft grade.

We only have 2 scholarship QBs

We should probably move Rickey Jefferson to QB

MACHO COMMENT OF THE WEEK!

Personally, I would feel better about a lack of depth at DT if we would have a returning Mike LB who picked up ball carriers who got thru our DL a little more like Minter and less like DJ.

But that's just me;)
