While visiting Ubisoft Montreal for our September cover story on Assassin's Creed Unity and Rogue, the lead developers on the new-gen title Unity emphasized that they were reworking the core pillars of the franchise to go along with their full leap to the next generation. We spoke with creative director Alex Amancio, lead game designer Alex Pedneault, and game designer Max Spielberg about exactly what has changed in the navigation, stealth, and combat gameplay for Assassin's Creed Unity. With new controls for climbing, a renewed emphasis on stealth and open mission design, and more deliberate and difficult combat, Ubisoft is promising that the next Assassin's Creed will feel different and fix common complaints about the gameplay of previous entries. The video also features several never-heard music tracks from Unity, so I hope you enjoy.

There is a video in the link where they show some comparisons between the new engine and how things work now.

I just got to watch the video and that looked great. Those features are long overdue but I guess that's the problem with annualized franchises.

I'm still not sold on Unity because of the co-op. Can I play the whole game by myself?

I think certain side missions are for coop, so that is how it is introduced into the game.

I don't mind playing co-op I just don't want to be forced to. AC just seems like a single player game.

it only took like 5 games for them to add a crouch option

For real. They basically admitted they've been putting out shite versions of AC. Like they knew the run/climb mechanic was wonky and you'd randomly find yourself hanging from an awning two stories up while trying to chase a target through a ground level alleyway, yet they didn't fix it for several games.

Yeah the movement needed an overhaul 4 years ago.

With all the instant-fail stealth missions that have plagued the franchise since AC2, I'm not sure this sends a good message.

They also claim to be getting away from that type of fail mission. They are going for an objective sandbox approach. I hope it happens.

I never finished revelations because of the stealth missions.
