I'm friends with the owner of my local pub (Maryland, near DC) and he told me tonight that he paid $7,000 in order to offer Sunday Ticket this season. He said they charge based on how the bar/pub is fire-coded (having to do with capacity). It's about a 1000SF place.

It was interesting to know how this works. I am sure he will make money (I hope, don't want him going out of business), but wow, DIRECtv is certainly gonna miss this revenue stream when it goes away.

(yes, CSB).

I've heard that capacity 2k places is around 40-50k.

That is the way they have always done it. Nothing new. Same for pay pie view events.

Yeah, he told me the Mayweather match was going to cost him 35K, so he passed. No worth it to him for a one time event (even if he filled the bar to capacity and everyone got totally skunked).

That sounds like a good deal depending on how big the bar is.

Can a bar just put up an antenna and show the games on local tv and not pay anything?

Sounds fair. If it's a big city and decent bar, it will fill the bar from 12-8 on a day when most people don't go out.

I'm sure bars hated when the World Cup ended. That was basically free entertainment that filled the bars at off hours almost every day for a month

Yeah, he cleaned up during the World Cup. I think BAR owners were suicidal when the U.S. got eliminated!

I'm sure. Never had to fight for space in a bar at 3 on a Wednesday before

Why wouldn't you just get your direct tv stuff set up at your home with some additional TVs and then set it up yourself at the bar? Lol frick paying direct tv, it's not hard to set up a dish yourself.

I'd pay the 7k and raise the cost of all food and drinks 25% across the board, if I owned the pub. This is the same thing every company in America is doing to offset the cost of the ACA that was passed with sweeping legislation in order to determine what it consisted of, while the wages of the American worker stays stagnant.
