How to Blend Text with a Background

Basically, want to get rid of the "LEVIATHAN" at the bottom and replace with my own custom text.

Nothing else will change.

Notice how it just looks like a pasted a huge block of text at the bottom rather than it being blended in and smoothly with the background.

I'd like to find a way to make it blend a little easier.

So first, I used the copy tool to 'erase' the writing in the picture. Just select a similar looking portion of the image, and it paints a copy over the area.


Then I used the text tool to type the text. You can pick the fonts and colors etc. To get the lighting effect, under Filters at the top go to light and shadow. I used the Xach-effect on the letters to get the whitish light behind them. Just play around with the filter effects and you can learn a lot about what gimp can do. I learned everything basically just throught trail and error and practice.

Ok, so I'm getting much closer. But now my copy tool isn't working to let me clean up some of the lines.

Any idea why?

I merged all the layers thinking that would solve it, but didn't. It wasn't working when they were separated either.

Also, check your opacity. For certain darker layers, if you drop the opacity a few points, it will help with the blend.
