motorola sbg6580 modem/router for ATT internet

Can I use my router to connect to ATT internet.
Its a cable modem and att is dsl but is there anyway around this. I don't want to have to pay for another router/modem. Fwiw, i have an old linksys router still available for use.

AT&T makes you rent a DSL Router & modem for $8 a month.
