quote:

The Israeli military said it has captured a Hamas manual on urban warfare — called “Introduction to the City War” — that extols the benefits of civilian deaths and openly admits that Israel tries to avoid them.

The Israel Defense Forces also said the manual — whose cover shows images of militants wielding rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons — crows about the propaganda value of the deaths of innocents.

“The destruction of civilian homes: This increases the hatred of the citizens toward the attackers and increases their gathering around [to support] the city defenders,” the manual said, according to the IDF.

The manual, which came from the Shuja’iya Brigade of Hamas’ military wing, also explained how heavily populated urban areas — called “pockets of resistance” — make operations for the IDF difficult because Israeli soldiers try not to harm civilians.

I bolded and underlined areas for folks like trackfan to pay special attention to.

How anyone can support a regime that PURPOSELY puts its civilians in harm's way is beyond me.

Waging a war is one thing, but your cause is worthless if you have to denigrate by intentionally putting innocents up to shield you from retaliation.

That's not honorable nor noble, it's being a pussy.

The IDF or the knesset or the likud or whatever the Israeli leadership is called probably printed that themselves and is just claiming to have found the "hamas" war manual.

A lot of common sense there. Same thing happens in Afghanistan, every time we drone a group of people we create more terrorists. Hamas has it easier since the dense population works in their favor.

abhorrent tactics for sure, but the Gazans continue to support Hamas as they are the only people standing up for them and fighting for their freedom - regardless of the tactics used.

It doesnt really matter who the group is. Destroy Hamas today and tomorrow it will be someone else. Gazans will fight and this cycle will continue until they are free.

No. I refuse to believe that Egypt can do it, but they Palestinians can't.

For a fact, it will happen.

This should not be surprising. Hamas's constitution endorses genocide. A direct quote:

quote:

The Islamic Resistance Movement aspires to the realization of Allah’s promise, no matter how long that should take. The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him salvation, has said: "The day of judgment will not come until Muslims fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jews will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say ‘O Muslims, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him."

That Hamas apologists are ignorant - or, worse, forgiving - of the group's despicable beliefs is. . . frightening.

One the late news shows (of the non alphabet soup variety) I was watching last night had a guy talking about the reason Hamas was formed in the first place. Apparently they formed their political party to 1. be taken seriously and not to be labeled as a terrorist organization and 2. for respectability b/c Israel continues to decimate them and they want other Arabs to see the "atrocities" that Israel is committing.

Nothing surprising in there. Hamas is a terrorist organization.

They seem to be noticeably absent, or haven't received their talking points yet.

The people of Gaza have to make a choice. Which is more important, freedom or the elimination of Israel? Electing Hamas was an expression that they chose the elimination of Israel as more important.

Giving up the goal of eliminating Israel will allow them to live in peace, and with peace will come freedom. I realize the freedom will be limited by American standards, but the Palestinians were willing to accept those limitations when they signed the Oslo Accords. As time goes by and trust develops between the Palestinians and Israelis the limitations will relax.

Is this the quote that you believe "glorifies" human shields? It seems like more a statement of fact to me. Guerilla armies and terrorist groups throughout history have always benefitted from the overreaction of the colonial power or occupation force to increase recruitment. Were the Israelis unaware of this before they read the Hamas manual? Perhaps Bibi should have asked the elders in Likud to borrow one of their old Irgun manuals.

The stuff in bold doesn't have quotes around it indicating that it wasn't in the manual, rather it's editorializing on the part of writer.

Why on earth would he want to consult a manual from a time before Israel was even a country?
