A growing number of evangelical Christians are standing up against what they say are the homophobic, sexist, and domineering ideas and practices of pastor Mark Driscoll, the influential head of the Mars Hill megachurch in Seattle, Washington.

The guy probably is a POS, but come on, a "growing number"?
quote:

Several dozen protestors
His church is 17,000 strong.

Why proclaim this to be some monumental movement?

I don't really care about this guy's church, but if you are gonna write an article, don't blow it up to be something it isn't.

I'm not familiar with the guy, but it sounds like he's more concerned about himself and his success than he is about his church.

The guy is the pastor of a megachurch. Of course he is in it for himself.

Are they forced to go to his Church?

Other than his inflammatory statements that tend to go over the top (he doesn't seem to express a "loving" attitude towards sinners, as he should), his views don't appear to be far from orthodox when it comes to homosexuals and women.

He definitely needs to rethink the image he portrays of the Church with his words, but the theology should come from the scriptures, not from public opinion, which changes every day.

Christians are sinners, too, and he should seek to repent of his sins and call others to repentance out of love, not hatred.

My opinion is that organized religion is silly, manmade bullshite. So it doesn't bother me in the least. If you believe ridiculous things, you are going to act in ridiculous ways. Law of the Universe.

This is pretty much the expanded commentary of the image I posted above.

Nailed it.

An objective review of that article rings all kinds of BS meters. Great example is touching on him posting under a pseudonym in 2000 towards the top of the article as a "gotcha" yet at the bottom of the article it shows how he publically apologized for it in 2006.

And you should abide by that rule that says, "it's better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you are an idiot than to open it and remove all doubt."

That has nothing to do with this thread.

Thanks for the opinion so far. It is a left leaning article.

Complete SITE dedicated to bringing him down

I am curious to know if anybody even attempted to look up what the guy has even stated that got him on the list.

I had never heard of him. Waiting to read more, but I think it has a lot of political currents in it.
