I know the tailgate scene will be a bit of a drag because of all the restrictions and what not, and many fans will be looking elsewhere for entertainment. Other than the Alumni bash that's being shoved down our throats, what are some other options on Gameday?

-Bars in midtown close to the rail
-Bars downtown close to the rail
-other sports bars/areas worthy of a Tiger fans' time prior to kickoff

It doesn't even just have to be the day of the game. Friday night suggestions are welcome too. I know some places have been thrown out already, but a big list of all the places to get Tiger fans together would be great.

We can even try to get the list stickied at the top of the board, and people can keep adding places as we get closer to the game.

This is just a suggestion because I love experiencing a day of tailgating, but if that can't happen, I know most people would like to have a back-up plan.

*************************************************

Midtown Bars:
- Christians Tailgate Bar and Grill

- Pub Fiction

- Leon's Lounge

- Mongoose Vs. Cobra at the McGowan stop

- Capitol Bar Kickoff Party

- Dogwood - Mostly outdoor patio bar; attractive women abound

- Drinkery - Dance floor upstairs; not clubby but people dance; regular bar downstairs.

- Red Door - Vegas club all the way; will be wall to wall; super annoying unless you are highly intoxicated.

- Gas Lamp - Newish place; huge patio on roof and outside; big indoor bar on first floor. Women dig it.

- Celtic Garden - mostly outdoor patio bar; women will be there.

Downtown Bars:
***Lots of places near Market Square***
-Reserve 101 - Tons of whiskeys - low key. Address: Caroline and W. Dallas I think?

-Dirt Bar - Kind of a grunge rock and roll bar. Address: Next to Reserve 101.

-Flying Saucer - 300 kinds of beer. Projector for sports. Smells like tortilla chips and your clothes will too because the ventilation is messed up. Still a great place. Address: 705 Main (Main and Capitol).

-Spring Bok - good food, great sports watching environment upstairs. Address: 711 Main (Main and Capitol).

-Sunny's - strong, cheap drinks. Eclectic crowd Address: Main and Capitol.

-Sambuca - live music, average cocktails. Address: Travis and Texas.

-Molly's and Shay McElroy's - Basically the same bar directly across from each other on Main. I'm not a fan of either, really. Just local bar environment. Address (Texas and Main).

-El Big Bad - Infused Tequila joint - worth checking out. Address: Travis and Prarie.

-Pastry War - Mezcaleria. Dope margs - terrible TV situation. Address 300 block of Main between Congress and Preston.

-Dean's - Recently renovated; looks great - usually empty. Address 300 block of Main between Congress and Preston.

-Bad News Bar - best cocktails in town. Will be packed on weekend nights. No tv. Address 300 block of Main between Congress and Preston.

-Little Dipper - average drinks. So so place. Address 300 block of Main between Congress and Preston.
Honeymoon - Cocktail coffee bar - good place. (300 block of main).

-Warren's - strongest drinks downtown. Not a happening spot. Address: in between Preston and Congress on Travis.

-OKRA - probably most popular bar downtown - all profits go to charity. Drinks meh. Address: On Congress in between Main and Travis.

-Hearsay - good food, good drinks, not much space. Address: Corner of Congress and Travis.

-La carafe - oldest building downtown; beer and wine only; cash only. Address Corner of Congress and Travis.

-Clutch City Squire: pool table, smallish; drinks ok. Address: 400 block of main between Preston and prairie.

-Barringer: directly above clutch city. No marked door or sign. (Same for bad news bar above). Usually a live band or DJ on weekends. Cool space.

-Notsuoh - strangest bar on the planet. Industry hangout late night. Address: 300 block of main between congress and Preston.

- St Arnold's Brewery:

LSU Kickoff Party at Saint Arnold Friday, August 29 - 5:00 - 10:00 PM The college football season starts right here in Houston, TX this year and we're throwing a party to celebrate.

On Friday, August 29 our normal Pub Night will transform into an LSU Tiger rally party the night before the matchup between Wisconsin and LSU at NRG Stadium.

All Bayou Bengals are welcome (and everyone else too, for that matter) to join us in our tour hall from 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM where we'll have regular beers on tap all night long for $4 and will have some special releases from our cellar available for purchase as well.

Between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM that night will be Tiger Power Hour where we'll donate $1 from every pint sold to LSU Houston. There will be reps from LSU Houston on hand as well with a silent auction with Tiger merchandise and memorabilia.

We also have a limited amount of special edition LSU Houston pint glasses available and you can get one for $10, which includes a full pint of beer from our regular lineup.

Bars Close to the Stadium:
- Little Woodrow's
- 55 Bar and Restaurant (place is big with lots of tv's and a good beer list but the reviews on food & service are iffy)
- BWW
- Ginger Man (good place to drink but only a couple of small tv's)

Please feel free to throw in more suggestions, and I'll add them to the list as they come in.

Eta: NOT SUSPECT

I think my group will likely do your first option. Go to a few bars in midtown then catch the metrorail around 4.

Friday night, I think we are going to Pup Fiction.

Any bars in particular or just whatever looks fun at the time?

My thread was mainly to get names of bars for out-of-towners, so they have an idea of where to party.

Bars Downtown

I live downtown, and it depends on what you're looking for - but here's quick guide:

Reserve 101 - Tons of whiskeys - low key. Address: Caroline and W. Dallas I think?

Dirt Bar - Kind of a grunge rock and roll bar. Address: Next to Reserve 101.

Flying Saucer - 300 kinds of beer. Projector for sports. Smells like tortilla chips and your clothes will too because the ventilation is messed up. Still a great place. Address: 705 Main (Main and Capitol).

Sambuca - live music, average cocktails. Address: Travis and Texas.

Molly's and Shay McElroy's - Basically the same bar directly across from each other on Main. I'm not a fan of either, really. Just local bar environment. Address (Texas and Main).

El Big Bad - Infused Tequila joint - worth checking out. Address: Travis and Prarie.

Pastry War - Mezcaleria. Dope margs - terrible TV situation. Address 300 block of Main between Congress and Preston.

Dean's - Recently renovated; looks great - usually empty. Address 300 block of Main between Congress and Preston.

I think one of the Real World cast members slings drinks there, if that tickles anybody's fancy.

What is the word on taking the Light Rail to and from the stadium? I hear you need to leave around 6 PM from midtown to make the 8PM kickoff. But what about after the game? The game should be over around 11:30PM, will leaving the stadium area by the train be a cluster and take forever?

If it was just $25 to get in - yeah I agree. But a lot of friends are going, it's an all day private party with food and a band, half the price of the alumni party, and it's on the light rail so no parking pass needed.

Lucky's Pub and Little Woodrow's East is not a bad spot near the rail. There's another LA spot near there as well.

Lucky's and Little Woodrow's are near the new rail, which I don't think is running and doesn't lead to Reliant. Those bars are about 12 blocks from the main rail line.

Those two bars are a couple blocks from Minute Maid park, but far from the rail on Main St. I think Lucky's will be a good place to party Friday night after Astro's game.
