I got all my shite from Academy and did it myself.

Came out a little ahead.

If you are hesitant about doing it yourself or don't really want to, then go ahead and buy a set of pre-rigs. I enjoy doing my own stuff so that's my reasoning.

I got like 200 lb test mono, some stainless offshore crimps and big swivels. Its easy once you figure out the arrangement, and shouldn't take long to knock out a dozen or two. I did about 20 or so in 30-45 minutes.

the academy brand work really well.

I buy them for 6-10 bucks a dozen after season is over and they mass liquidate. No tangleing and my hands never get where cause the loop is at the decoy vs the weight

Get these. Sliding clips are much better than sliding weights.

I have all mine Texas rigged. I keep some hung up and some in decoy bags. Did them all myself. Got the H&H kits from BP and the rest from Academy when they were on sale.

Hunt marsh primarily, ponds are usually 1 ft to 1 inch deep. Rigged all myself because I found that a lot of the pre-mades either were 1.) way too long for me and/or 2.) used way too much weight.

We pirogue in so weight is an issue, cut back where we can. No need to have a 5-6 oz weight in a pond, all mine are on 3 oz weights bought from tackle shops, some are on 2 oz weights. That's all personal preference. You can get the heavy monofilament and crimps from the tackle stores as well, here in BR I use Superior or order online from Tackle Warehouse (I think that's what its called).

I didn't use the clips, just crimp a loop and let the line slide through the hole in the keel. Just one less thing to deal with.

I just tie a knot on one end then put the other through the decoy then through a bank sinker then tie another knot.

When I pick up what is left of my decoys at the end of the season I just pull the string through so the decoy and weight are hanging on the bottom. Then I tie a half hitch with a huge loop which I put over my shoulder or on a hook.

To untie the decoys for next year you just pull the tag end of the line and they come undone. It works better if all the strings are the same length.

I imagine it's a hole that only the lines can fit through, and not the decoys


We just hang them on a nail to store them. No problems
