How much is your life like this poem? Mine is only a little like this but I know many people about whom this could have been written....

It was a letter to the editor in today's paper...

This poem was written in response to Louisiana having five of the top happiest places to live. This sums up why we live in Louisiana.

Michael L. Cobb
Houma

‘They call that Bayou Living’

Simmering on the sunny bayou making my living.
Passing the time with mon ami, cooled tea sipping.
Catching us catfish on the side of the boat row.
Dancing Friday nights away at the fais do-do.
They call that Bayou Living!

Chasing furry bandits; taking each pelt.
Shucking salty oysters; slurping them down loosening my belt.
Hunting ten-foot gators just for their skins.
Hauling in a ton of shrimp and taking them to market in ice-covered bins.
They call that Bayou Living!

Browning the flour in Crisco oil.
Chopping up the trinity while bringing that roux to a boil.
Sautéing it down and adding a special mumbo jumbo.
Going to have us a good gumbo!
They call that Bayou Living!

Cutting chicken necks mighty fine,
Setting them on tangled twine.
Dropping them off the side of the dock.
Cracking fat crabs open; inviting over the whole block!
They call that Bayou Living!

Waking up early each Sunday morn.
Putting on our finest by accenting and adorn.
Getting blessed by Communion at monsignor’s Mass.
Coming home for lunch and having a picnic in the sweet summer grass.
They call that Bayou Living!

Sitting in the pirogue by the coming dawn.
Blowing my homemade carved call with my 12-gauge drawn.
Blasting those mallards out of the crystal clear sky.
Eating duck stew with friendly passers-by.
They call that Bayou Living!

Standing in the deer stand in the hazy twilight.
Watching the tree line for tail fur colored white.
Looking through that bulls-eye; shooting that buck.
Selling some meat and mounting that rack; Oh! What luck!
They call that Bayou Living!

There's more...

tl;dr version:

Lousiana is a great place to live if you can tolerate heat, humidity, mosquitoes, and hurricanes.

Willie, dressed in best of sashes,
Got in the grate and burnt to ashes;
Pretty soon the room grew chilly,
But no one liked to poke up Willie.
