We acquired James Russell and Emilo Bonifacio from the cubbies today. Hopefully the acquisition of Boni spells the end of Schafer.

Eta: Swamps will be here with a prospect breakdown shortly

With Gattis and betancourt I don't think he was playing anytime soon.

Caratini is a pretty decent prospect. We overpaid a bit for not much of an upgrade. Russell has big time reverse splits this year, so unless that changes once he becomes a Brave I'm not sure how this trade helps us much at all.

Boni will probably be our best bench bat by a fair bit, but that's not saying much of course.

This is why Atlanta never wins anything. The goddamn Marlins went out and got a serviceable starter, and we meddle around with a 4th/5th outfielder with speed (because we steal so many bases as a team), and a middle reliever. How about our fricking starting pitching is pathetic. The Cardinals got better with Lackey in town. Hell, the damn Nationals went out and got Asdrubal Cabrera who will fill in at 3B shifting Zimmerman to the OF. That lineup just got better.

Looks like Braves finish 3rd or 4th in division.

No, we will finish 2nd in the division. I just mentioned the Marlins because at least they are going out and making an effort. The Braves are sitting on their hands.

While we didn't really improve all that much, Cabrera is garbage. Bonifacio is better than he is.

Outside of having the money to trade for Price, I'm not sure what we could have gone after to improve the rotation. Not like Lackey is really much of an improvement over what we have.

The pitching has not been the problem. The starters have way outperformed expectations this year other than Minor. The bench has been absolutely terrible, so if Schafer is gone that's an upgrade. I think we had to expect that no big moves would be made. We don't have many big prospects to trade and we weren't trading anyone from the starting lineup.

ETA: Ryan Zimmerman's arm in the outfield sounds like a disaster.

Not much we can do really. We are still getting raped by Uggla and BJ's contract

The Braves seem to always make horrible deals

It's almost painful to be a fan sometimes (and I consider myself one)... They always pull the rug out from under you.

Cabrera is garbage? That's news to me. Lackey is easily an improvement over Harang. I don't know what y'all see in our rotation, but I think we are pretty damn horrible. Minor and Harang give up so many runs that it almost wouldn't matter if the Braves put up 5-6 runs. They'd still find a way to lose the game. I'm just not confident in this teams' ability to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Yep. While we could easily have made a better offer for Price than what Detroit gave, no way we could have afforded to trade for him money wise.

Lackey would have been the same as well, too much money.

I really hope we try out Peraza in CF in AAA next season, we really need to try and have cheap players at 2B, 3B (Kubitza hopefully), and CF to make up for the dumb Uggla, BJ, and CJ contracts.

.270/.331/.410 with a 105 OPS+ for his career.

Just .246/.305/.386 with a 96 OPS+ this year.

He's not very good.

Caritini has the upside of a utility man. That's not really a high price to pay for a solid bullpen arm and a decent bench bat.

You think this is 2012 or something? Cabrera basically hits like Simba but plays crappy defense. He's hitting .246 with a .691 OPS and is a negative fielder. Maybe you wanna look up the players before you rant?

Cause seriously, what in the hell are you talking about? Harang is 9-6 with a 3.43 ERA, he's been one of the best starting pitchers we have. Now he's not who I would want headlining our rotation in the post season, but he's been an amazing 4th/5th starter. He's actually one of the main reasons we are only 1.5 games back in the division. Without him we'd really be up shite creek.

Minor on the other hand you are right, he's sucked. He should probably be replaced with Hale for now.

Our chance to make a deep run in the playoffs was lost when we had three separate starting pitchers go down for the season, not a damn thing the Braves can do about that. Most teams would be in the crapper after that happened, not fighting for first place like the Braves are.
