Mac SD card issues

I just got a new digital frame, and I'm having troubles loading pictures from my Mac to the SD card to put on the frame. Drag & drop works just fine when my SD card is formatted in Mac OS Extended format, but my frame doesn't recognize the card. When I format the SD to MS-DOS FAT format, for some unknown reason it will only copy 1/4 of my pictures, but no more. When I try and add more, it says there is not enough space, but my card has 2.03/2.06 GB available. What am I missing? I can't find any correlation between which pictures will add and which pictures won't.
