Question about the Apple TV remote.

I have my direct tv box and one connect box hidden in a space behind the wall and tv to hide all the wires. Direct tv remote works wirelessly through the wall but the Apple TV does not. How can I get my Apple TV remote to work through the wall so I don't have to walk on the other side to turn it on etc?

does it use infrared?
if so, you will need a repeater
you probably have a directv RF remote, which doesnt require LOS

I would just do this. It is a much more functional remote as well.

You have the answer. If you have an iPhone you should be using it as the remote anyway.

i'm finding wifi and 3g based phone apps have just about replaced all my remotes these days except for my stupid ancient Vizio tv.
for the reasons listed..it doesn't care about infrared or line of sight or any of that crap
i learned this lesson with DISH TV last fall when i put my TV outside to watch LSU games. the 3g-based remote control was *SLIGHTLY* laggy, but the convenience more than made up for it.

All the remote does is let you access the music in your iTunes. I need it to scroll up and down/left and right etc.
Unless I'm missing something

You are.
The remote app lets you scroll around the Apple TV just by scrolling on your phone's screen. It also has a keyboard drop in on your phone's screen when you are in a search box.

This is the screen you want in the remote app.

Yeah, I put the remote up and only use the remote app. Much more efficient and works from long distance.

Put the remote that came with it in a safe place. The remote app on your phone works when both the Apple TV and your phone are on the wifi network. If your Apple TV ever loses your network settings or you get a new router or something, you will have to use the manual remote to get your Apple TV back up on wifi cause your phone won't work as a remote in that situation.

Use the remote app, don't even need to the remote it came with
